Grading

The Key element to successful field design is positive water flow. If excess water cannot flow off the surface via natural slope, water puddles develop and games are missed.

RECOMMENDED SLOPE PERCENTAGES: Infield 1 to 1 1/2%, Outfield 1/2 to 1%

Puddles are like a cancer to a field. They occur when natural water flow on the surface is stopped. Depressions should be filled, lips should be removed, and the grade should be re-established to get the water beyond the foul lines or into the turf.

Using a laser grader is the best way to ensure that the grading on your field is correct, consistent and will not retain excess water.
